The National Weather Service issued an extreme fire danger warning for 39 counties in Minnesota on Monday, the state's Department of Natural Resources said.

The warning means fires can spread quickly and easily get out of control under the forecast weather conditions, which include gusty winds and low relative humidity. In these counties, burning is prohibited while the warning is in effect and campfires are discouraged.

The warning applies to the following districts between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.:

  • Becker
  • Beltrami
  • Cass
  • clay
  • Clear water
  • Grant
  • Hubbard
  • Mahnomen
  • Norman
  • Otter tail
  • Polk
  • Wadena
  • Wilkin

The warning applies to the following districts between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.:

  • Aitkin
  • Cass
  • Crow wings
  • Itasca

The warning applies to the following districts between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.:

  • Big stone
  • Chippewa
  • Douglas
  • Lac Qui Parle
  • Kandiyohi
  • Gentle
  • Morrison
  • Pope
  • traverse
  • Todd
  • Stearns
  • Stevens
  • Fast
  • Renville
  • redwood
  • Yellow medicine

The warning applies to the following districts between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.:

  • Lincoln
  • Lyons
  • Murray
  • Nobles
  • Pipestone
  • rock
