7 new horror films on Netflix, Prime Video, Shudder and more in October 2024

We finally did it. It's October and as we count down to Halloween, horror abounds. The best streaming services are adding more movies and shows of the spookier variety to their libraries – just check out these four horror films coming to Netflix or these six upcoming Stephen King films coming to Max in October.

So if you're looking for a good scare this month, you'll probably be overwhelmed by the selection. But fear not, because I've got seven brilliant recommendations, including some of the best horror films, perfect for any Halloween gathering or just any Wednesday in October.

With new films like I saw the television light up And The substance Although 2024 has impressed critics in recent months, it should be a good year for fans of the macabre. With that in mind, here are seven titles available on streaming services that you shouldn't miss this spooky season.

When I saw the full list of everything leaving Netflix in October, this one immediately caught my eye. It follows is a must for every horror fan for several reasons. The first is the use of jarring images that I still think about nine years later, particularly those in the opening scene (you have been warned).

The film, which was one of five new films recently added to Paramount Plus, plays with the typical sexual elements of some horror films, but instead of a slasher victim stalking teenagers, the threat is something only those affected can see and that can endure form of anyone. Oh, and it's sexually transmitted, so that's fun. This is one hell of a ride and in my humble opinion everyone should experience it.

A Quiet Place Part II (2021)

I wouldn't survive in it Quiet place Universe and if you too are cursed with the inability to keep your mouth shut, you will empathize with this fear. Seriously, this is a worthy sequel and just as terrifying as the first. Here, Emily Blunt has lost a husband and a baby (which she gave birth to in a strained bathtub scene), but it's no less compelling without John Krasinski's character.

If you can't get enough of this franchise, A Quiet Place: Day One is also very good, and the fourth film A Quiet Place Part III (confusing!) is coming in 2025, so there's a lot more where this came from.

The Babadook (2014)

This is horror at its finest. Jennifer Kent made quite the first impression in her titular directorial debut Babadooka character from a pop-up children's book – if that were in my house I would burn it, but that wouldn't be a very good movie.

Instead, Kent delivers pure terror, heightened by the brilliant leads of Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman, a troubled widow and her son who begins to develop signs of erratic behavior. Not only is it absolutely terrifying, it's also full of heart and deals with themes of parenting, among other things. It is 100% worth your time.

MaXXXine (2024)

When: October 18th
Where to stream it: Max (USA)

The finale of Ti West X Trilogy is coming to streaming and it's worth it just for Mia Goth (she's a star!). Although viewers in the UK and Australia will have to wait a little longer, viewers in the US will be able to watch the film at home on Max from October 18th. In this sequel, we follow Mia's Maxine Minx as she successfully auditions for a new horror film. Meanwhile, Night Stalker's murders are happening in the background, putting her in danger.

It's a fitting farewell and Mia Goth continues to wow here, having wowed us before, especially with her wonderfully unhinged role in pearl. I know it was always meant to be a trilogy, but I'm really going to miss that.

Friday the 13th (1980)

Friday the 13th has one much of sequels and they all have confusing names like The final chapter for the fourth film – is available now eleven Movies. Does anyone else hate it when horrors do that? Yes, me too.

Anyway, you can't beat the king, and I'm talking about the original film from the 1980s. 80s horror in general rocks, and you really can't get much better than this. It's our first encounter with Jason Voorhees, and he really knows how to put on a performance.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

The less you know about it The cabin in the forestthe better. Resist the urge to read any spoilers for this film and get excited because trust me, this is not your average horror film. Equal parts horror and comedy, it's great for watching with friends, family, and any audience. There will be a lot to talk about afterwards, it's a great time and you'll be surprised where it goes.

In my opinion, it's quite easy even for newbies to the genre, the comedy elements help, so perhaps you can use it to gently encourage your easily frightened friends this Halloween season. Find out why it's one of the best horror films of all time.
