Kristin Cavallari is still thinking about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Mark Estes was the “best” thing she ever had – but the age difference proved too big to get over.

“It's hard because I broke up with Mark because I just know it's not right in the long run,” Cavallari, 37, revealed on the Tuesday, January 1, episode of her Let's Be Honest podcast. When Cavallari and Estes went public in February, they caused a stir because of their 13-year age difference. However, Cavallari remains committed to her relationship with Estes. “Just through my life experience, I started to feel the age a little bit. “I look back when I was 24 and how much life happened for me in between,” she told her listeners. “These are crucial years. These are formative years. This is when you find yourself. He has to be able to do that.”

The Laguna Beach Alum acknowledged that “a lot of people” would take her to task over the delayed reaction to his age, but she said she's “always been aware that he's 24.” She added, “It wasn't that I ignored the fact that he was younger.” The former reality star noted that she doesn't want to “rob” Estes from getting married and having children of her own.

Cavallari – who shares sons Camden, 12, and Jaxon, 10, and daughter Saylor, 8, with his ex-husband Jay Cutler — began getting emotional after insisting that her split from Estes was “not a bad thing.”

“I really see our relationship as such a beautiful relationship. Honestly, probably the best relationship of my life,” Cavallari explained. “It was very healthy and very mature. It was nothing but sweet and loving. Mark is a really good guy. And that makes it difficult.”

Cavallari got embarrassed when discussing Estes' future outside of their relationship, saying, “I actually think one day he'll thank me” for pulling the plug. “It's just a hindsight that you don't have at 24. At 24, everything is so (focused) now,” she shared.

While Cavallari claimed that she's “really happy and really comfortable with the fact that my life is all about my kids and my work right now,” she said that Estes is the kind of man she wants in her life – if the stars align.

“If Mark was 45 and had two older children, he would be perfect. I’m serious,” Cavallari enthused. “He's such a good guy, but to me it just means I'm one step closer to finding the one.”

She noted that Estes was confident that the “work” she had done since her divorce from Cutler was paying off because Estes was “so close to what I want.” “I just think the timing was wrong,” Cavallari continued, concluding, “My life is just full right now.” I don't necessarily want to devote the time I have to a man right now. This is it.”
