Louisville and Notre Dame may be a young rivalry in the world of college football, but it feels like it means something every time these two teams face off.

This year, the Cardinals are 3-0 against Notre Dame as one of their toughest opponents to start the season. Louisville is hoping to hand the Irish their second loss of the season, making a path to the 12-team College Football Playoff extremely difficult as an independent. The series is tied 2-2 in series history, with Louisville winning the last game last season. This time the game is in South Bend, where Louisville is 1-1 against the Irish.

Tyler Shough had a standout performance for Louisville in its win over Georgia Tech, going 13 of 19 for 269 yards and two touchdowns against the Yellow Jackets. However, the running game needs to be better if the Cardinals want to beat Notre Dame. Last week against Georgia Tech it was just 63 yards.
