Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister scored as Liverpool maintained their 100 percent start to the UEFA Champions League with a 2-0 win over Bologna at Anfield.

The Reds got off to a powerful start and took the lead in the 11th minute when Mac Allister finished off Salah's sensational shot to score his first ever goal in Europe's premier competition.

Bologna had their moments and hit the woodwork twice towards the end of the first period but failed to score to dampen the home crowd's spirits.

A low-key second half followed until, in the 75th minute, Salah became the first Reds player to score with a superb curler in five straight Champions League home games.

Liverpool will next look to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League when they visit Crystal Palace on Saturday. The midfielder Bologna hosts Parma in Serie A on Sunday.

Topic of conversation – Arne Slot writes Liverpool history with another solid win

Perfect in Europe and at the top of the English top flight, it's fair to say Liverpool's start to life under Arne Slot continues to be promising.

The shock 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in September remains the only blemish on an otherwise excellent record. In fact, the Dutchman is the first Liverpool coach in the club's glorious history to record eight wins in his first nine games as coach.

The Merseysiders' transition from the Jürgen Klopp era to the former Feyenoord coach's philosophy is still a work in progress, but despite clear indications of areas that need improvement going forward, the players have laid the foundation with positive results they hope that there will be greater rewards later.

There is no doubt that Liverpool face greater challenges, particularly in a daunting period following the October internationals which include games against Chelsea and Arsenal, but they have put in a good run of games from the start and look more solid defensively too .

Player of the game

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool). In a game that was hard-fought for long stretches, it was the Egyptian who made the decisive contribution; He first provided a charming assist for Mac Allister before calming nerves with a trademark shot from the right.
