Hundreds of thousands of Florida residents were hit by Hurricane Helene, which wreaked havoc on the state's Gulf Coast with storm surges, flooding and devastating winds before making landfall in the Big Bend region as a Category 4 storm.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said local, state and federal agencies and utility companies were working around the clock to restore power, clear and reopen roads and clear debris from the storm.
