Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp) died from the poisoned wine that each member of the coven had to drink to pass the first test in Episode 3, solved by Sasheer Zamata's potions witch Jennifer Kale.

Teen digs her a grave on the side of Witches Road, while Alice confirms that her mother Lorna Wu died on the way – which sounds vaguely like The Witches' Road, but in reality she died on the road , in a hotel fire. Alice remembers her mother telling her that the path would save her.

When Teen places some gypsophila on Mrs. Hart's grave, Lilia wonders how much antidote Mrs. Hart got from drinking two glasses of wine.

Agatha tries to continue down the street after a half-hearted “Rest in peace, Mrs. Hart,” but the rest of the circle refuses to leave. Agatha calls Sharon “a bad draft pick” and tries to taunt the others with “more power for the rest of us.” Jenn and Agatha discuss certain lyrics to the Ballad of Witch Street: “Circle Two” versus “Circle True.” Alice asks Agatha how many other witches left the street with her last time, and Agatha holds up a finger to signal why she assumes it's “coven two.” Alice is questioned about the meaning of the line, as her mother wrote the most popular version of the ballad.

Alice, Jenn and Lilia don't want to continue without a green witch to complete the coven and replace Mrs. Hart. Agatha considers whether she should summon a replacement for the road. Teen provides a spell book for the process. Each circle member sets criteria – Lilia demands that she be strong and good at her craft, Agatha that she is not annoying and not overly political. Jenn for looking good and Alice for bringing Advil.

Who should sprout anywhere other than the leaf-shaped body outline in the ground if not Aubrey Plaza's Rio Vidal? Teen fears they turned Mrs. Hart into a zombie, but it was just Agatha's old romantic antagonist in green. She says that she's less of a green witch and more of THE Green Witch before she starts jumping down the path.

Teen asks if Agatha wants to talk about her dangerous but charismatic wife being back. “Are we in trouble, Agatha?” More than ten minutes ago?” he asks. Lilia's observation that Agatha hates Rio appears in the pro column, meaning it's a plus for the rest of the coven that Rio has arrived.

The next test manifests itself as a wooded house on the path. Alice doesn't want anything to do with the house, but the path will definitely lead her there. The waxing moon at the front door indicates the fire phase and Alice is afraid to go inside. They enter the building transformed into people dressed like a 70s rock band.

“We're an album cover waiting to come out,” says Teen, and he's not far off the mark because the six of them look like a witch Daisy Jones and the Six or Fleetwood Mac. Teen then looks for a clue to what awaits her in the next trial, such as the map that was on the beach house mantel in Episode 3.

Lilia examines red plaques in the scene of tortured women, which brings tears to her eyes. Jenn sees a pile of masks hanging on one of the house's stone walls. Alice finds a photo of her mother. Lilia asks Alice if Lorna was trying to pave the way with her concerts. Alice confirmed that this was her intention and said that Lorna's fans were her circle.

Lilia has another out of place moment where she says something that doesn't fit the situation: “What is that? Am I weak or crazy? Alice, Alice, don’t!”

Rio asks Agatha how the search is going, and she says that “magic, as always, has taken the path of least resistance” to appoint her as Earth's replacement witch for the rest of the coven. She then asks Agatha why she brought “that boy” or teen. Agatha says she needs hands. Then she tries to say “What if it was one last great adventure?” to Rio, who says “like old times”?

Agatha then presses the button that turns on the microphone that connects the recording booth room where she and Rio were talking to the main living room of the house, while Rio claims that Agatha will kill all the witches once they reach the end Street.

The speakers begin emitting a cacophony of noises as Teen attempts to play a record, which he thought was a clue because “Play Me” is printed on the record's protective sleeve. Agatha smashes the record and the player to put an end to the terrible noise.

“We were cursed,” says Lilia.

“I think this attempt at music has begun,” Rio says as a metronome begins to click on the piano.

Alice feels lighter and asks if the others are feeling the same. Lilia's body begins to smoke as if it were on fire. Alice draws a circle around Lilia and utters some kind of incantation while Patti LuPone's witch writhes on the floor in her sparkly jumpsuit and orange coat.

“What if we talked reason to the witch who cast the spell?” the teenager asks.

But the only way out for the circle is passage. A circle surrounds Jenn, and Teen points out that there are what appear to be burn marks on her shoulders. Lilia has similar wounds or wounds in the exact same place.

“The Ballad of the Witches Road” by Lorna Wu is on the record. Agatha asks if Alice brought the curse with her. She also has faint scars on her shoulders.

“I didn’t think it was real!” says Alice. “I convinced myself they were moles,” she tells everyone. “Even though (my mother) had the same ones.”

Teen is then thrown through the glass separating the sound booth from the main room of the house after the witches freak out about the generational curse threatening them.

Agatha comes to the same conclusion as Alice, that they must play Lorna's version of “The Ballad of the Witches' Road” to suppress the curse. Lorna's intention was to save her daughter by opening the road.

Lorna's Ballad is a protective spell that has kept Alice from burning throughout her life, because at any given moment, somewhere out in the world, someone is singing the song that Lorna left behind.

Teen offers to play guitar and Agatha lets Jenn play base. Lilia plays Zills or triangles and later maracas, and Alice takes over the piano. Her cue introduces the song. Rio is on drums. Agatha starts smoking, but when she continues playing the song, she is safe and everyone sings along.

A breeze blows past Agatha as she sings “Risk this heart of mine.”

During the second verse, parts of the house begin to catch fire. Some sharp point begins to pierce through Teen. Alice has a nice solo moment while singing.

The curse takes the form of a fearsome creature with red and black wings, and Alice vows to kill it as soon as she sees it. It flies and clings to her shoulders, but she belts out a sound that defeats the creature, which dissolves into ash flakes.

Teen faints right after the piano lid opens, revealing the exit, similar to the oven in Episode 3. It turns out that there is a shard of glass sticking out of his stomach. Agatha bursts into tears as she tries to revive Teen. Lilia suggests leaving him, and Rio watches mysteriously from a distance. Jennifer heals the wound with water and moonlight.

“Jennifer, look what you’ve done,” Lilia says menacingly and proudly.

Jennifer confesses that she is an eleventh-generation rootworker and midwife while Agatha watches over Teen's unconscious body. Jenn tells the story of how she was tied up. She was invited to the brand new Greater Boston Midwifery Association. It was a trap, and a man bound her without magic.

“When Mom died, I stopped believing everything she ever taught me,” Alice says. “I was so angry. Part of me hoped the street wasn’t real so I could stay angry.”

“Now you know that everything was for you,” says Lilia. “And that makes you sad. Sad is better than angry.”

Lilia complains about misconceptions and rumors when it comes to witches – about how they talk to ghosts and are covered in extra nipples. Rio says she is covered in nipples for everyone to see.

Teen wakes up and asks Agatha if she gave him the seal. She says no, but then changes her statement to say that she wouldn't know because sigils also affect those who cast them. Teen asks if it can be lifted. Agatha says that it can be broken, and before he asks her how, she says that a seal is broken when it is no longer needed.

“You don’t have to know a person’s name to know who they are,” she tells him.

Then Teen asks her what really happened to her son. She just says, “Heal quickly. We won’t be here long.”

The circle asks Agatha to show them her battle scars. She shows her elbow, which has been fitted with a knitting needle by the Daughters of Freedom.

Rio then says she has a scar.

“A long time ago I loved someone.” She went on to say that she regretted doing something but had to do it because “it was my job and it hurt them.” She is my scar.”

Agatha goes out for some fresh air and Rio follows her. Lilia takes Rio's arm and warns her, “Don't think for a second that I've forgotten what you said in the sound booth.”

Agatha and Rio hug for a long time.

“Agatha,” Rio says, right before Agatha tries to kiss her. “This boy is not yours.”

Agatha grins and walks away.

Two trials are over and there are five more to go if things are to go according to plan for Agatha and her motley circle, as well as for Teen.
