SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Humidity has increased slightly today and the chance of rain is slightly higher. However, the pattern remains the same. Showers and a few thunderstorms will occur near the coast in the morning, with the focus shifting to inland areas in the afternoon and evening. The biggest question mark remains what will happen in Gulf waters as we approach the weekend and early next week.

By the end of the weekend, models still want to trigger a tropical depression, tropical storm or hybrid storm in Gulf waters. However, there is still disagreement about the location, course and evolution of this low. These differences would have a big impact on the type of weather we were likely to experience. This could currently result in the forecast ranging from stronger winds and heavy rain to relatively minor impacts.

The most reasonable forecast currently calls for an increase in the chance of rain late this weekend and early next week, accompanied by a breezy wind. Potential rainfall could be more than 4 inches over a three- or four-day period, depending on the location of a developing Gulf low and whether it moves over Florida. It's possible the low will take on tropical characteristics, but it's too early to know.
