Ferencvaros – Tottenham 1:2: The young Spurs team wins the Europa League in Hungary

Spurs, eighth in the Premier League, made seven changes from the team that won 3-0 at Manchester United on Sunday. Postecoglou gave Moore his first appearance after five substitute appearances, while Lankshear was involved in a senior game for the first time.

Lankshear almost got off to a dream start when he threw himself at Timo Werner's cross, but he misjudged the diving header attempt as the ball bounced off his shoulder and over the crossbar.

Moore also made an impression and his fine run led to Tottenham's first goal, with home defender Stefan Gartenmann losing track of the loose ball, allowing Sarr to score his second goal of the 2024/25 season, having scored in the win over Qarabag Spurs' second goal.

In a game played in the merciless Budapest rain, Ferencvaros, top of the Hungarian league with six wins out of six, had a great chance to equalize, but Guglielmo Vicario did brilliantly to deny a curling effort from Matheus Saldanha.

Lankshear had two more chances, but a volley bounced to the ground and then over before being thwarted by Gartenmann's sliding maneuver just before the shot.

Werner also missed a great opportunity when he got through cleanly from Moore's pass, but the German's first touch was poor and forced him wide, leaving him only to hit the side netting.

With 25 minutes left, Postecoglou added more experience to his team with Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison replacing Bergvall, Werner and Lankshear.

Striker Dominic Solanke, named for England on Thursday for the first time in seven years, was also a late substitute.

Johnson appeared to have put the game over the home side after Gray and Moore did good work again before Varga's volley down the stretch gave the visitors a nervy end.

Tottenham will be looking to continue their successful start to the competition in three weeks' time when they host Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on October 24.
