2024 MLB Playoffs: Pete Alonso ends home run drought, sends Mets to NLDS with 3-run home run in Wild Card Game 3 Hot weather expected in San Diego – NBC 7 San Diego

As Jesse Winker As he approached second base, rounded it and headed toward third base for his game-winning triple in the second inning of Game 1 of the Mets-Brewers Wild Card Series on Tuesday, he appeared to yell something at the Brewers' shortstop Willy Adames. Or at Brewers Catcher William Contreras. Or in his own shelter. You can't really tell.

But no matter who the words were directed at, Adames objected.

After safely reaching third, Winker turned toward the Mets' dugout and cheered, as if to say “f–k them” as part of his celebration.

Winker was then seen engaging with Adames, who appeared to say something to the effect of “I'll tell you in the parking lot” and added “after the game” before making a “shhh” motion during he put his fingers to his mouth.

After the game, Adames described the situation as “surprising.”

“I don’t know what was going through his mind, but he just started saying some things,” Adames said, via Bally Sports Wisconsin on X. “And I just say something back, you know, I don’t know. I think that's the type of player he is.

Adames added: “It was surprising that he said so much, but you know, like I said, I think it's part of his personality. And it was just a little surprise to me, but you know, we don't go back.

Meanwhile, Winker claimed that he did not say anything to Adames when he was in charge of the bases.

“If you all think I can walk and talk, you don’t know my athletic ability,” Winker said. “That doesn't work.”

Winker noted, “As soon as I saw (third base coach). Mike Sarbaugh) Windmill, I focused my attention on the second one and thought, “I'm going to the third one.” That's all that happened.

Winker and Adames were teammates last season when Winker played 61 games for the Brewers.
