Thanks to a low pressure system in southern Canada, we're starting October very windy. Saturday will begin with strong winds in the western Dakotas, moving into the eastern part of the tri-state region later in the day. Strong westerly winds could affect some areas in North Dakota, with gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

The low pressure area also carries the risk of rain showers. The rain would be very light and will depend on how far south the low is, but areas of eastern ND and central/northern MN could see some showers move through.

Watch for red flag warnings or fire warnings throughout the weekend. It is expected to be a very dry and windy weekend and a small fire could easily spread out of control in these conditions.
