The highly anticipated third part of the “Princess Diaries” series received the green light on Friday. The film series is based on the young adult novel by Meg Cabot and stars Anne Hathaway in the lead role. Variery reported that “The Princess Diaries 3” is produced by Debra Martin Chase, who created the film series. Anne Hathaway will also produce under her Somewhere Pictures banner. Late Friday night, Anne Hathaway shared the announcement news on her Instagram with a selfie video interspersed with clips from parts 1 and 2 as she recited the iconic “Shut up!” Line from the films. The film has been in development for two years. Last year, Anne shared an updated interview with V Magazine. “We are in a good place. There is nothing to announce yet. “But we’re in a good place,” she had said. Well, finally, it seems the production has gotten to an even better place.

“The Princess Diaries” follows teenager Mia Thermopolis who discovers that her estranged father was the king of a fictional kingdom called Genovia. After her grandmother (played by Julie Andrews) comes forward, Mia has to leave her city life to become a princess.

A new director will direct the third part. Adele Lim, best known for directing “Crazy Rich Asians,” has come on board to direct “The Princess Diaries 3.” “As a die-hard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I am thrilled to be a part of the third installment of The Princess Diaries bringing this beloved franchise to life. “We look forward to celebrating the core messages of female strength, joy and mentorship with audiences around the world,” Adele said in a statement shared by Variety.

The film will be released in theaters this year but does not yet have a release date.
