A jackpot winner has the option of receiving a pension or a cash payout.

According to the Mega Millions website, the annuity is paid as an immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments. Each payment is 5% higher than the previous one.

“This helps protect the lifestyle and purchasing power of winners in times of inflation,” the Mega Millions website says.

The cash option is a one-time lump sum payment equal to all cash in the Mega Millions jackpot prize pool.

If two or more people win the jackpot in the same drawing, the money will be divided equally between all winning tickets.
