Brentford's incredible early run of success continued as Nathan Collins headed his side into the lead against Wolves in the second minute.

But the defender's effort came 16 seconds too late as the Bees came close to making Premier League history at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Before kick-off at 3pm on Saturday, Brentford had scored within a minute of each other in their last three Premier League games against Manchester City, Tottenham and West Ham.

In doing so, the west Londoners became the first Premier League team to score in less than 60 seconds in three consecutive games.

And with a fourth goal, Thomas Frank's team would have become the first to score four goals in one minute in a season.

But they narrowly managed to make history after Collins headed Mikkel Damsdaard's cross past Sam Johnstone.

It was just 16 seconds into the second minute.

Brentford's early antics in recent games proved to be a bad omen as the club failed to maintain their lead, resulting in two defeats and a draw.

And Brentford fans would have feared the worst two minutes later when Matheus Cunha equalized for the hosts in a chaotic six-goal first half.

But in the 20th minute the hosts regained the lead thanks to a penalty from Bryan Mbuemo.

It was the 25-year-old's sixth Premier League goal of the season – just three shy of the nine goals he scored last season.

Refusing to go away, Wolves equalized again moments later when Jorgen Strand Larsen fired low into the bottom right corner.

However, just two minutes later, Brentford scored again, this time through Christian Norgaard, who fired an effort into the bottom corner.

The drama didn't end there, as Ethan Pinnock scored in stoppage time to make the final score 4-2.

talkSPORT reporter Lewis Mason summed it up perfectly when he said live from the Gtech Community Stadium: “This game is mental!”

A win for Brentford would move them into the top half of the table.

But a Wolves defeat would see them remain bottom of the table.

They are yet to win and have only picked up one point from their first six games.
