Alabama Football vs. Vanderbilt: Second half open thread The Northern Lights can appear here on Saturday evening

The Iowa Hawkeyes got off to a solid start to the Big Ten season with a road win at Minnesota. Since then, they've had an extra week off to rest, heal and prepare for their biggest test of the 2024 season.

Now Iowa travels to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in an environment the Hawkeyes haven't won in since 1991. In their last trip to the Horseshoe, Iowa was beaten 54-10, which was their first trip to the stadium since 2013.

With a score of 3:1, the Hawkeyes have been able to hold their own against inferior opponents so far, but lost their only duel against a now higher-ranking opponent. The Buckeyes will certainly present a new challenge as the No. 3 team in the nation enters the day ranked third in both total offense and offense.

Led by Kansas State transfer QB Will Howard, the Buckeyes throw for nearly 260 yards per game and have two dynamic threats at receiver in freshman Jeremiah Smith and senior Emeka Egbuka, both averaging nearly 91 receiving yards per game.

Behind them, Ohio State has two NFL running backs in senior Treveyon Henderson and Ole Miss transfer Quinshon Judkins. The duo each averages more than eight yards per carry and have combined for nine rushing touchdowns this year.

If Capable of slowing down the Buckeyes' potent offense, the Hawkeyes will have their hands full moving the ball against the top-scoring defense in the country and the No. 2 overall defense. The Buckeyes have talent at every position and will have the luxury of being able to easily play right on the back end while loading the box to slow the Hawkeyes' rushing attack.

For its part, the Iowa offense remains well above its level from a season ago, thanks in large part to the performance of the offensive line and RB Kaleb Johnson. After a week off, Johnson has fallen to second nationally with 685 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns.

The Hawkeyes must find ways to continue running the ball effectively against stacked boxes to keep the potent OSU offense off the field as much as possible and shorten this game. Additionally, Cade McNamara and Tim Lester will need to utilize the running game to benefit Finally Find some semblance of a downfield passing game.
