Bears-Panthers battle leads to ejections in Chicago's stunning win The Texans' defense hinders the Buffalo passing attack

Important events

Half time: Brighton – Tottenham 0:2

Brighton were outwitted and Tottenham were awarded. Brennan Johnson's finish was fine, James Maddison had a bit of luck. A few good chances in Brighton make the difference in class between these two only slight.

45+2 mins: Case in point: Rutter, who is a passenger for the entire half of the game, is miles offside when the ball is passed to him.

share

45+1 mins: Spurs invite the Brighton press but the home side struggle to get anything going.

share

45 minutes: Three minutes come and it is very quiet in the Falmerdome.

share

44 mins: It could have been three, Johnson overtook Mitoma's chase and shot over the crossbar. Ange is horrified, even though this seemed like a difficult opportunity.

share

42 mins: Brighton try to hit back but Tottenham try to get through the half. As mentioned elsewhere, they have a good defensive record.

share

40 minutes: Van der Ven's speed stops Welbeck's run. The fastest in the industry – confirmed.

share

38 minutes: Spurs look very good, full of attacking dimensions. They had some luck with this goal, but were clearly the better team. But after a cross from Kadioglu, Welbeck heads past the goal.

Goal! Brighton 0-2 Tottenham (Maddison, 37)

This pressure from Brighton means more space for Tottenham. Solanke goes out to Werner, the ball is sent inside to Maddison, who strokes it into the goal and Verbruggen makes a shot of it. The goalkeeper desperately holds his head.

36 minutes: Welbeck walks through the canals and he and Mioma exchange passes. Finally, Mitoma lands the ball on Hinshelwood's head, but the ball drifts back.

35 minutes: Can Brighton maintain the momentum they have achieved recently?

share

33 mins: Sudden waves of attack from Brighton, Minteh in the foreground and a forced corner. The corner sees a foul. Veltman and Maddison there? Next, Igor Julio received a yellow card for bringing down Kulusevski.

share

32 mins: And yet Brighton almost scored. Mitoma's cross is beautiful and Welbeck misses “Oh Danny, Danny”. That hurts.

share

30 minutes: To illustrate this, Lewis Dunk is forced to use his turning circle to clear the ball.

share

29 mins: Cheers from the Tottenham vans as Verbruggen is forced to knock the ball out of play. Spurs win in the battle for high pressing.

27 mins: Some ridiculous acting as Maddison and Veltman collide. The Dutchman accuses him of diving. Then comes a theatrical fall to make his point. No warning and Veltman makes a limp gesture to his opponent. Amusing stuff. More please?

25 minutes: With this goal, Johnson equalized a performance from Harry Kane. Do you remember him? Brighton have no answer to Spurs' pace across the park.

Goal! Brighton 0-1 Tottenham (Johnson, 24)

Another goal – the sixth in a row – from Johnson. Fine play from Solanke, he wins the loose ball and Johnson scores. This goal had come. The Spurs were excellent.

The Spurs have a goal disallowed

21 mins: Porro gallops down the wing, ball to Johnson, and then a ball to Werner, the header falls and Maddison pushes in. Offside. But how?

share

19th minute: Verbruggen can only pass the ball back to Spurs. Brighton camped in their area. They don't normally have to play like that. Big test for their young manager. Lewis Dunk has to stop the old fashioned way and comes over to stop Solanke.

share

16th minute: Here's a zip from Timo Werner and Lewis Dunk finishes Udogie. Brighton tries to play from defense but has big problems. Tottenham are pushing high.

share

15th minute: In the Sky broadcast, Alan Smith has just admitted that he got three points on his license for driving 24 out of 20. The game isn't that bad. Much more zip than in Villa Park.

share

14 mins: Here comes the Irish question from Tik: “Does Evan Ferguson have to wait until Danny Welbeck gets his pension before starting again, or is it time for him to go on loan in January, even if the Championship is at stake?” There With Pedro out injured and Evan back training full-time for about two months, Hurzeler would certainly have done so long ago if he had intended to use him.”

13 mins: Mary Waltz answers: “Good morning John from California. I pray for an exciting game. Sleepy as I watched the first half of the United vs Villa clash, I switched to the Chelsea Forrest game, was rewarded with a cracking 1-1 draw and watched United's snoozefest on the MBM. If the MBM is better than the actual game, it’s so sad.”

This also applies to Tim Young: “I noticed a post in your MBM that suggests that the way these two teams 'score and concede' could be 8-8, which reflects the popular view that both teams were wasteful at the back. But Tottenham have conceded the second fewest goals in the league so far. Why do you think this idea has become so widely accepted as true?”

Tim, it's Spurs.

11 mins: Porro – with his wand of a right foot – hits a diag that Maddison might have handled a little better. Next, Mitoma tries to escape for the first time. He is offside; Ange uses the center line again. Risky business.

share

10 minutes: How does Brighton react? They almost caught Bentancur with maximum pressing, while the Spurs desperately eliminated the danger.

share

8 minutes: That will be it for Webster. Igor Julio will come. Webster was in some pain after getting a mare at Chelsea last week. Good player, Webster, and a reminder that the lower leagues have a lot to offer. Julio keeps racing.

share

7 minutes: Baleba tries to cut back but is pushed out. Adam Webster is down and injured. He picked it up while clearing his lines, a hamstring injury or a calf injury.

share

5 minutes: Another Tottenham attack, Brighton so open. Romero's ball is beautiful and Maddison has time once he brings the ball to the ground and Webster blocks.

3 minutes: Brighton try to get a move going but Udogie clears his lines as the exciting, pacey Minteh looks to escape. The Spurs go back to the other side, Kulusevski passes the ball in and Dunk uses his experience to block the ball. So far the game is open.

And here we go…

1 minute: The Spurs take a flight and the Timo show begins. Does he shoot? No, he targets Brennan Johnson with a pass. And misses his target.

The players pay tribute to Barry Lloyd, the club's former manager and chief scout. A name from a completely different Brighton.

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our former manager Barry Lloyd at the age of 75.

We extend our sincere condolences to Barry's family and friends at this saddest time. The players will wear black armbands today and there will be a tribute against Spurs next weekend.

Pascal Gross – or is that Gross? – is presented to the Falmer faithful as a farewell. He is now in Dortmund. What a player he was for Brighton. One of those guys who is so underrated that he's considered one of the best players.

About the BBC: Some interesting quotes from Ange Postecoglou who welcomed Fabian Hurzeler to Tottenham's training facility last season. “He spent a day with us. He asked a lot of questions and I certainly gave him too many answers.

“At one point I actually turned him down because he asked for too many. I passed it on to the other trainers. He was curious about everything. He was already a senior manager, doing a good job and the fact that he still wanted to ask questions – he left a real impression on everyone.”

Yash Gupta reports: “David Squires made a cartoon about Werner after the final between Chelsea and Man City in 2021. Best country player outside the penalty area. Okay, maybe the sixth best in this Tottenham team. As long as he contributes well, I think his 'show' can be put on hold for now.”

I'm a fan. A total entertainer.

Congratulations, Daniel Harris, for staying awake through this. I was glad Arc came in the second half.

Otherwise, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest drew 1-1. That's a good result for Nuno, a manager we've all written off, isn't it? (OK, I have that.)

Jeremy Boyce gets in touch: “Given the way these two score and concede, it’s either 8-8 or 0-0, right?”

I get that vibe, yeah.

Fabian Hurzeler makes two changes from Chelsea last week. Yankuba Minteh and Joel Veltman come on, Mats Wieffer and Pervis Estupinan sit on the bench. Ange Postecoglou chooses the same team that beat Manchester United. This means that the Timo Werner show continues.

preamble

As the season falters, Brighton's great start to the season has evaporated, and with it fears that Tottenham could soon explode. Five wins in a row is enough. Spurs were impressive against Manchester United and then prevailed at Ferencvaros in midweek. A win could take Ange Postecoglou's team into the top four, where they would like to be. Brighton have not won in the Premier League since August and were on the wrong end of a thriller with Chelsea last week. Fabian Hurzeler has already shown that he has fire in his belly, and so has Ange. So let's hope for fireworks in Falmer.

Kick-off at 4:30pm UK time. Join me.
