Jane Wickline satirizes Generation Z parties Steelers fans react: Making the case for Russell Wilson to take over as starter

Don Sweeney wasn't particularly concerned with how Jeremy Swayman's agent Lewis Gross responded to comments previously made by Boston Bruins president Cam Neely.

When speaking to reporters earlier this week, Neely indicated that the Bruins had offered Swayman a $64 million contract.

SPM Sports' Gross then refuted Neely's assumption in a statement.

“Today’s press conference mentioned $64 million,” Gross wrote in a statement on Monday. “This was the first time this figure was discussed in our negotiations. No offer of this amount was made before the press conference.”

However, Sweeney chose not to delve deeply into that back-and-forth on Sunday. It was behind Sweeney and the Bruins as Swayman and the Black and Gold agreed to an eight-year contract on Sunday. The contract calls for a reward of $66 million, an average of $8.25 million per year.

“I just think that in the spirit of negotiations, there are a number of things when people talk,” Sweeney told reporters Sunday, as seen on NESN. “I think Louis and I communicate – he’s really good at advocating for his client. And if there is headwind, he defends his client in this spirit.”

“Details are important in our conversations, but the externals in the narrative are not so important. You just have to make sure you stay in communication and work through some of those tricky points.”

Sweeney said he felt “very comfortable” with Gross throughout the entire process.

“As I said, a story is a story. That’s all I have for it,” Sweeney said.

Sweeney confirmed that Swayman would not start between the sticks when the Bruins open their season against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Swayman will work his way forward, and Sweeney expects Boston's goalie to do the same before long.
