The San Francisco 49ers will wear alternate uniforms, including white pants, as they prepare for what is expected to be the NFL's hottest game at Levi's Stadium.

Temperatures are expected to be around 95 degrees at kickoff on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Pacific Time, rising to 100 degrees throughout the afternoon. The hottest game to date was a preseason game on August 31, 2017, where the kickoff temperature was 90 degrees. The hottest kickoff temperature of the regular season was 88 degrees against the Seattle Seahawks on October 4, 2021.

Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers had considered wearing their all-white throwback jerseys, but were told they would have to make that request before the season. Instead, they will wear their retro uniforms, which consist of a red jersey and white pants.

“We will apply as much white as possible, and the most we were allowed to apply was white paint,” he said.

The Arizona Cardinals will wear their all-white jerseys during the game.

Shanahan said the team will also promote hydration before and during games and expects the number of players receiving infusions to increase. Some players will receive infusions as part of their normal pre-game routine.

Left tackle Trent Williams has received in-game IVs twice this season – in Week 1 against the New York Jets and at halftime in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily the heat,” Williams said of the need for an IV. “It all just depends on how high your fluid levels are. Sometimes you take caffeine for fast-twitch medications, things like that can accelerate sweating and dehydration.”

The 49ers practiced in 90-degree weather all week. Williams was asked how it compares to the heat in his native Texas.

“That is not the case. “That’s not the case,” he said with a laugh. “No comparison at all.”
