Firefighters from Gretna and other surrounding communities extinguished a field fire Sunday on land belonging to Valas Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchard.

Several regional fire departments worked together to extinguish a field fire in Gretna near Valas Pumpkin Patch on Sunday. The Gretna fire department was joined by several units from surrounding cities. The fire was widely visible as smoke billowed across Interstate 80.

According to a Sarpy County 911 dispatcher, a brush fire was reported at the pumpkin patch at 12102 S. 180th St. at 1:52 p.m. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control shortly after 3 p.m. and were battling the sources of the fire

Alina Macias, director of safety and attractions at Pumpkin Patch, said the fire started on a Vala's agricultural property. The fire was widely visible as smoke billowed across Interstate 80.

“There were no problems for our guests,” said Macias. “If there was anyone near (the fire), we were able to move them away.”

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Papillion, Springfield and Bellevue. The Omaha Fire Department sent a tanker truck with water.

A member of the Papillion Fire Department said all units in the department were cleared from the scene before 3:30 p.m. No injuries were immediately reported.

A woman who answered the phone at the pumpkin patch said she couldn't say anything other than to say the store was open.
