While Maine hosts dozens of great agricultural shows, one show stands out above the rest.

The Fryeburg Fair, Maine's Blue Ribbon Classic, is not only the largest fair in the state, it also serves as the finale of Maine's fair season.

The fair began in the early 1850s when a group of farmers from western Maine decided to come together to show off their produce and livestock. Since then, the iconic fair has grown to a 185-acre exhibition center with over 100 buildings.

The Fryeburg Fair is a traditional agricultural fair in Maine and offers local farmers and artisans the opportunity to showcase their wares. The fair also features a massive midway, dozens of food vendors and nightly entertainment.

With the exception of 2020, the fair has become an iconic part of fall in Maine. Around 225,000 people visit the trade fair every year.

This year's fair will take place from September 29thTh until October 6thTh.

A big change at this year's Fryeburg Fair

According to a post on the Fryeburg Fair's Facebook page, fairgoers can expect a big change at the fair gates in 2024: the introduction of metal detectors.

In order to make the trade fair as safe as possible for hundreds of thousands of visitors, metal detectors are used at the trade fair.

Highlights of the 2024 Fryeburg Fair include a performance by the Mallett Brothers Band, a tribute to Garth Brooks and a performance by country singer Josh Turner.
