Carrie Underwood recalled some of the first milestones she achieved in her career after her American Idol victory in 2005.

The powerhouse country star opened up about her musical journey during the 50th American Music Awards special anniversary event on Sunday night (October 6). Including artists who took the stage throughout the evening Brad Paisley (with a tribute to the late legend Charley Pride), Kane Brown (with a tribute to the beloved country star Alan Jackson), Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Green day, Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, RAYE And Stray childrenwith special appearances by many others.

“It's very special for me to win Breakthrough Artist in 2006,” Underwood said in a pre-recorded video that aired during the anniversary show in Los Angeles, California. “You have a chance to win groundbreaking awards. It is a great honor to win fan-voted awards. They have always supported me from day one. This is literally how I got into this business because people voted for me. I look at these awards and I’m still blown away.”

Underwood also relived some “surreal” moments from the AMAs over the years, including as a legendary musician slash and late singer-songwriter Scott Weiland gave her an award in 2007. According to her bio, Underwood has won 17 American Music Awards throughout her career.

Two decades after the victory American IdolUnderwood is next scheduled to return to the competition show as a judge Katy Perry's departure.
