The first sign of tension in the Bears' 36-10 win Sunday against the Panthers came midway through the third quarter at quarterback Caleb Williams scrambled 10 yards on a third-and-8 and shot hard out of bounds.

Williams kept the drive alive by running up the right sideline and reaching the Panthers' 2-yard line when he jumped out of bounds to avoid being hit by two defenders. However, as he sailed through the air, Panther's safety was assured Nick Scott jumped off the goal line and shouldered Williams in the chest, sending him flying into some photographers.

There was no penalty on the play, but the Bears appealed. Left guard Bill Murray ran up to Scott after the play, nudging him and giving him an earful as the crowd at Soldier Field booed.

Williams didn't agree with the no-call.

“I thought it was a flag,” he said. “I was out for a while.”

Asked if he followed up on the matter with officers or received an explanation, Williams said: “I didn’t ask. I just kept going. Help the team. Go score.”

The Bears reached the 1-yard line before settling for it Cairo Santos' 33-yard field goal that made it 30-7.

While Williams moved on, Scott's hit stuck for the offensive line.

“That was dirty,” right guard Matt Pryor said. “We take it personally when our quarterback gets hit, regardless of whether it was a legal play or not.”

Late battle

Things got even more exciting when there was an argument between several players Rosschon Johnsons One-yard touchdown run with four minutes left.

Murray grabbed the cornerback Jaycee Horn while blocking the play, and Horn charged at him after the whistle. He hit Murray and the offensive lineman Doug Kramer in the facemask, then Pryor came in from the right and hit him in the side of the helmet. Panthers linebacker DJ Johnson ran in and shoulder-slammed Pryor to the ground before officers could calm down.

Horn and Pryor were ejected; Johnson was charged with unnecessary roughness.

“It would have been better to deal with it during a game rather than there, but I'm going to protect my teammates,” Pryor said.

He and Murray were unclear about what triggered Horn's initial reaction.

Pryor said: “Probably just frustration. Nobody likes to be ashamed.”

At the end of this game, Bears coach Matt Eberflus curiously decided to go for a two-point conversion. Plus 26 points.

“That was the table,” he said.

Secure.

Regardless, the Bears didn't convert as Williams threw a pass incomplete Keenan Allen.

Basketball stars

The Bears honored the former Bulls star in the second quarter Derrick Rosewho watched the game with his family in a suite.

Rose, a three-time All-Star and 2011 NBA MVP, retired last month.

Heaven forward Angel Reesean All-Star and runner-up for Rookie of the Year this season, was also at the game and watched the warmups on the sidelines.

Jenkins hurt

Eberflus did not have an update or timeline for starting left guard Teven Jenkinswho left in the second quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. He was already suffering from bruised ribs.

When Jenkins went down, the Bears chose Murray Nate Davis. The 27-year-old Murray played on offense for the first time in his career.
