Asked about the heated conversation on the sidelines, Nix initially joked: “He turned around, looked at me and said, 'I love you,' and I turned to him and said, 'I love you too.'”

Nix said a simple miscommunication led to the exchange.

“It was an individual game. We had turned it around,” Nix said. “He wanted it to go to the border and we were just confused as a group. So I tried to do things right. In the end we had it, had a chance and I overthrew it, but that's part of the game sometimes.” . In the huddle operation, sometimes you just have to get the best out of the guys, like when the game clock is running. You just make the best of it, and luckily it didn't bite us.

At that point, the Broncos were ahead 20-10. Nix would add a TD plunge and another touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to completely blow the game away.

Nix, 24, was born in 2000 but said he's seen enough of Ferris Buller to understand the connection.

“Yes, I saw the film. I find him funny. I think that literally explains the situation,” he said. “We’re just out there with great competitive intensity and fire. We can have these conversations and go right ahead and score a few more touchdowns. That doesn't bother us…

“This film is funny. I think it's a great film. I’ve only seen it a few times because it’s old, but I think it’s good.”

The Broncos have gone 0-2 in three straight starts since the start of the season. Nix became the first rookie in Denver franchise history to win three starts.
