Slab closes Saturday – Portland Food Map

Sicilian street food from the plate closes. The restaurant's last day of business is this Saturday, October 12th. A statement from the owners said, among other things:

For over a decade we have had the privilege of bringing Stephen Lanzalotta's masterpiece to the masses, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive! We are so grateful for the national recognition we have received and for our fans all over the world – we can't thank you enough for your support and kind words over the years. ⁣

We would also like to express great appreciation to our dedicated employees who are passionately committed to the art and science behind making the most delicious pizza in the country.⁣

plate was launched in June 2014 by Stephen Lanzalotta, Jason Loring, Matt Moran, Tobey Moulton and Emily Kingsbury. Lanzalotta was previously a baker at Micucci's, where Portlanders were introduced to his version of a slice-based pizza. Lanzalotta passed away in 2022. Although it is best known for its rectangular pizza slices, the menu also includes salads, sandwiches, a wide selection of beers, desserts and thin-crust pizzas.

While the restaurant closes, the frozen pizza portion of the business will continue. You can find Slab's rising crust pizzas at dozens of locations in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire – see slabportland.com for a full list.
