In Week 3, Carson Steele showed up in Chiefs Kingdom. Week 4 saw the reunion with Kareem Hunt. Next week, a Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City could add another running back to its roster of backfield players.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire began the season on the Chiefs' Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, forcing him to sit out the first four games of the new year – mandatory roster decision requirements. With those four weeks now up, Edwards-Helaire can return to the Chiefs at any time.

Edwards-Helaire seemed ready for some time.

The Chiefs struggled to assemble a healthy backfield in the first few weeks of the season given the high injury numbers at the top of the season. Isiah Pacheco, the team's leading back, broke his fibula in a Week 2 win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Arrowhead, forcing the team to rely on a tandem of rookie free agent Carson Steele and newly acquired third-stringer in Week 2 -Down-Back Samaje Perine to leave 3.

In response to the loss of Pacheco, the Chiefs brought in a familiar face in seven-year NFL veteran Kareem Hunt, signing him to a one-year contract worth $1.2 million. However, the timing was such that they had to get through Week 3 – a road win against the Atlanta Falcons – with only Steele and Perine available. Luckily, they did a good job and the Chiefs remained undefeated.

With Hunt now fully on the roster, it will be interesting to see how the franchise positions Edwards-Helaire upon his return – or if the tightness of things influences their decision to activate him at this point. However, Edwards-Helaire appears ready to play. He recently made a cryptic post on Instagram that suggested he would be ready to be activated when he is eligible, and further rumors from NFL reporter Ian Rapoport confirmed that he is expected to return in Week 5.

With the addition of Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs definitely have some things to figure out, but they are deeper than ever at the position. That's good news considering KC needs to post another strong run in the postseason
