Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster had his best game in over three years on Monday Night Football, beating the New Orleans Saints. Smith-Schuster had 130 receiving yards and became the focal point of a Chiefs passing attack that is missing its top two wide receivers in Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice. Both players are expected to miss the entire season.

Smith-Schuster has struggled with injuries and declining play since the 2020 season with the Steelers. In 2021, his final year with the Steelers, he nearly suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. 2022, his other year with the Chiefs, was his best season with the team. He had a lackluster 2023 after signing a three-year deal with the New England Patriots and dealing with recurring knee problems.

After his release in August, Smith-Schuster signed with the Chiefs, giving them a physical slot wide receiver. Now they benefit from this move as Smith-Schuster split up the Saints' zone coverage for most of the game. He, along with Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt, were the key ingredients that allowed Patrick Mahomes to distribute the ball down the field in the Chiefs' 26-13 win over the Saints.

Before this game, he only had two balls for 17 yards. Although Smith-Schuster is only 27 years old, his health has forced him to lose some of his early-career explosiveness, but it began to fizzle out on Monday night. It could be a springboard that allows Smith-Schuster to regain some of his form in the fight for his second career Super Bowl.
