Passengers on board a flight to Tokyo got more in-flight entertainment than they bargained for last week when an explicit film featuring sex talk and explicit images was broadcast on all screens.

Due to technical issues, individual film selection was not possible on a Qantas flight from Sydney to Haneda, so the crew had to select a film to be broadcast throughout the cabin.

People who said they were on the flight shared their experiences on social media.

“It was impossible to stop, dim or turn it off,” one person wrote on Reddit. “Here's the kicker: the movie they played was extremely inappropriate. It featured graphic nudity and a lot of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the text on the screen without needing headphones.”

The passenger said that after about an hour the crew switched to a “more kid-friendly movie.”

The airline apologized.

“The film was clearly not suitable for viewing throughout the flight and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience,” a Qantas spokesperson said.

Once the error was clear, “all screens were switched to a family-friendly film for the remainder of the flight,” Qantas added.

“We are checking how the film was selected.”
