Running back Samaje Perine hasn't been a member of the Chiefs long, but he's been around long enough to know that you can't take your eyes off the ball when it's in the hands of tight end Travis Kelce.

One of the highlights of the Chiefs' 26-13 win over the Saints on Monday night was a play in which Kelce caught a short pass on third-and-21 and then went across the field to Perine, who ran 15 yards for one fourth goal to score -and-1, which the Chiefs converted on the next play.

It's not the first time we've seen Kelce next to a teammate, as he did with Kadarius Toney for a touchdown last year, only to have the score wiped out when Toney was warned for being offside on the play. Perine saw that game and he saw Kelce sideways in practice, so he knew he had to “keep his head on the ball” Monday night.

“It wasn't a script, I I can tell you that much” Perine said on Sports Radio 810 WHB. “I've seen him a few times, he does it in practice, so I thought, 'Let me stay in phase just in case.' And sure enough, I saw him switch the ball and twist his arm back and I was just ready for it.”

Perine called it “crazy” to be a part of Kelce's “backyard football,” and seeing the duo make a run at the playoffs will definitely give opposing defenses a little something extra as they prepare to face the Chiefs in the coming weeks give cause for thought.
