Hurricane-hit Florida is bracing for more storm surge and damaging winds as potentially catastrophic Hurricane Milton heads toward the state's west coast.

Treasure Island lies directly in the storm's forecast path, putting residents like Chuck Fuller on high alert after already facing the force of Hurricane Helene.

Fuller said in an interview with Fox News early Tuesday that he planned to evacuate before the storm made landfall and he was urging others to “get out” as well.

“There's not much we can do…We've never seen a storm of this magnitude. They said it was probably over 100 years ago,” he told “Fox & Friends First” co-host Carley Shimkus.

“One of the most terrible causes of loss of life is drowning,” he continued, speaking of the threat of storm surge. “So please go out and be safe.”

Residents of the Sunshine State are heading inland to shelters or to safer areas in other states as they heed warnings to evacuate and stream along the highways.

Fuller's area, already hit by Hurricane Helene late last month, is now grappling with destruction, sewage on the streets and growing pressure to do what they can to stave off the damage Milton could cause.

“I have a warning for those who might still see this on the barrier islands. We've become very complacent because over the years the storms have come in and haven't done much damage, maybe a little water. “We've never had water in our house, but maybe some wind damage. The first year we sandbagged, we moved the cars, nothing happened and then so on and so forth, so you get complacent,” he said.

Hurricane MILTON will strengthen and swell in size before spreading to Florida and more top headlines

Projected path of Hurricane Milton

The forecast path of Hurricane Milton indicates that it is likely to impact most of the Florida Peninsula.

“But I can tell you, take the officers’ advice and get out because we have no idea (what’s coming).”

Preparations for Millton included boarding up houses, building barricades out of sandbags and “a lot of praying,” Fuller said, adding that the post-Helene area couldn't afford to “take any risks.”

Milton jumped to category five on Monday before falling back to category four hours later. The storm is expected to make landfall late Wednesday.
