Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are still “waiting” for an update on Big Little Lies.

The 48-year-old actress and her 57-year-old co-star are both excited to return for a third season of the hit HBO show – which originally ran from 2017 to 2019 – but the novel's author, Liane Moriarty, has been working on it about new material.

She told E! News: “Nicole and I have been waiting. We're waiting for Liane Moriarty. She’ll be giving something away very soon.”

“We’re going back to the original author and going back to the original characters.”

Although the Legally Blonde actress doesn't have much to say, she's eager to find out how the characters developed.

She added: “It's exciting too because I think the kids are probably a bit older now.”

“So that could add another element. I don’t know yet, I haven’t read it yet.”

Nicole confirmed plans for a new season in November 2023 and admitted over the summer that she was too anxious to share the news at that point.

She told Vanity Fair in June: “I was excited. But now we are! We move fast and furiously, and Liane delivers the book. Yes, and we are in good shape.”

Meanwhile, the Perfect Couple actress, who also starred in the series alongside Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley, insisted it was best to keep details about the new season under wraps until there was concrete progress.

She said: “We have to keep our mouths shut. There’s this whole thing about never talking about something until you’ve done it.”

“When you talk about doing it, it's the dopamine rush that comes with it. You feel like you did it. It’s a scientific study.”

Back in January, Nicole confirmed that there was a “schedule” for the third season.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said: “We're always making things up! We now have a timeline for this.”
