The Minnesota Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night in Game 5 of the WNBA semifinals by a final score of 88-77. With the win, Minnesota secured a spot in the WNBA Finals, where they will face the talented New York Liberty. Although Connecticut made things interesting, their 2024 season is now officially over.

The Sun would like to compete again in 2025, but they will have a lot of work to do in the offseason. Two star players could also leave during the offseason. Here are two players who won't be back next year after the Sun's loss to the Lynx.

At 37 years old, Bonner is still one of the better players in the WNBA. She is expected to hit free agency in the offseason and will likely draw interest from across the WNBA.

However, at 37, there is a possibility that Bonner will retire. At the time of writing this story, there are no guarantees. If she decides to play on, the Sun will have competition and try to re-sign her.

Bonner averaged 15 points per game last season. She led the Sun to the postseason and Bonner enjoyed some big moments in the playoffs. Should she decide to continue playing, it's safe to assume the Sun will be interested in reuniting. However, Bonner is nearing the end of her career and could decide to sign with a team that has a better chance of winning a championship.

Thomas, 32, has spent her entire WNBA career with The Sun. The Sun has had its ups and downs over the last decade, but Thomas has established himself as a star. Will Thomas really consider leaving the only WNBA team she's ever known?

The fact is that Connecticut once again fell short in the postseason. Thomas is desperate to compete for a championship and will enter free agency in the offseason. If a true championship contender tries to sign her, you have to imagine Thomas will at least listen to the team's offer.

Familiarity is important here too. Thomas could decide to re-sign with the Sun. However, in the end she may want something new.

The 32-year-old likely has a few strong seasons ahead of her in the WNBA and will be one of the most popular free agents in the coming offseason.
