In an interview with CNN in 2011, the industrialist had revealed that he was on the verge of getting married four times in his life but shied away each time due to fear.

“I have come seriously close to getting married four times and each time I have shied away out of fear or for one reason or another. Every occasion was different, but in hindsight, when I look at the people involved, what I did wasn't a bad thing.” “I think it would have been more complex if the marriage had happened,” he said, adding that he had fallen “seriously” in love four times in his life. “She got married in the USA”

One of these times he confessed that he was in a relationship with an American woman he met while working in the United States.

“I was probably at my most serious when I was working in the US and the only reason we didn't get married was because I was coming back to India and she was supposed to follow me. That was the year of the Indo-Chinese conflict. This.” The conflict in the snow-covered, uninhabited part of the Himalayas was viewed in the United States as a major war between India and China and so she did not come and subsequently eventually married in the United States,” he said.

Tata returned to India in 1962 after his grandmother fell ill.

“I feel lonely because I don’t have a wife”

In an interview with TV host Simi Grewal, Tata spoke about being a bachelor all his life.

“Without a wife, without children, without a family – what motivates you?” she asked him.

“I don’t know what motivates me, but let me sit with that for a moment. I often feel lonely because I don't have a wife or family, and sometimes I long for it. But sometimes I enjoy the freedom. “I don’t have to worry about other people’s feelings or worries,” he said. (Also Read: Ratan Tata's Guest Recalls His Colaba House With 'Middle-Class Furniture')
