The Detroit Red Wings open their 2024-25 season at Little Caesars Arena against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday at 8 p.m. on Bally Sports Detroit.

Looking to build on last year's season in which they narrowly missed the postseason, the Wings aim to make amends this year by making the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The Wings finished last season with a record of 41-32-9 and missed the playoffs because the Washington Capitals held the season tiebreaker.

The Wings' season opener has been pushed back an hour because the Tigers' playoff game on Thursday will also be in downtown Detroit, starting at 6:08 p.m.
