Keanu Reeves will star in the Sonic x Shadow Generations movie DLC

Sega has announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack will be available as DLC for Sonic x Shadow Generations shortly before the film's release.

And yes, Keanu Reeves will play the voice of Shadow.

The DLC will be inspired by scenes from the film Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and will arrive ahead of its release on December 12th.

The news was shared at PlayStation State of Play this evening with a look at the DLC's gameplay. Wearing a furry design similar to that of the film, Shadow is seen racing around Tokyo in the film's latest trailer.

“This title was designed to satisfy not only fans of the Sonic game, but also those who watch the Sonic movie and become fans of Sonic and Shadow for the first time,” said series producer Shun Nakamura on the PlayStation Blog.

“But we obviously didn't expect Shadow from the film to be included in this game, as the world for the film and the game are different – we thought it would be a challenge to do so.”

“However, we saw an almost festival-like opportunity where the film and the game would be released almost simultaneously. We decided to pursue this and work on film-related content, with development beginning last fall.”

The goal is for fans to see the film and then relive it as part of Sonic x Shadow Generations. The DLC will not have a strict story directly related to the film, but will be inspired by the setting of Tokyo.

As for recording Reeves, Nakamura said, “It was an incredibly secretive process. So when we started putting the voice into the game, we weren't actually told who that voice was. The voice recording was done by Iizuka-san.” So when we received the recorded voice files, we listened to them and thought, “Is that this actor…?”, so after the official announcement from Paramount, we were surprised too!”

The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack is included with the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game. The film will be released on December 21st.
