Weather paradise at the Cumberland Fair – US Trotting News

Cumberland, ME – Bettors had a field day at the Cumberland (Maine) Fair on Monday (September 23) as five of the eight races resulted in double-digit ticket payouts.

Wally Watson got things started with his own Terror Hall and a three-shot over the back that scored in 1:58.2. Western Terror's 11-year-old son, who trained with his wife Lisa Watson and owned the business, paid $23.20 for the win.

The next big payoff came from Easteriffic and Andy Harrington, who scored a thrilling neck-and-neck victory over Ten Beaches Later (McGwire Sowers), winning in 2:00.1. The 9-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven mare, owned and trained by Ryan Berry, paid $29.60.

Harrington also won with Polyester (1:58.3, $5.40), resulting in the reinsman's one-two victory.

Mike Cushing also earned a driving win when he pulled ahead of the field with a move over three depths to pull away by 5-3/4 lengths with Joes Beauty in 1:58.4. The 7-year-old Roll With Joe mare was trained by Charlene “Sherry” Cushing for owner Bryson Dostie and paid $10.00.

Winter Asher-Stalbaum's Hurricane Bunny missed catch-driver Walter Case Jr.'s three-shot on the outside and scored with Rare Bunny's 9-year-old son in 1:58. They paid $21.00 to win.

Aaron Hall had three wins under his belt, starting with Trotter Squable (2:02, $2.60), then Third Power (1:58.4, $10.40) and rounding out the troika with Love Kitten (2:00 , $4.40).

The Maine Sire Stakes reopens on Wednesday (September 25) at the Cumberland Fair with 3-year-old filly pacers and then begins on Thursday (September 26) with the 3-year-old male pacers with the 3-year-old trotters taking place on Friday (September 27) complete the sophomore divisions. The 2-year-old final will take place on Saturday (September 28th).

Racing continues on Tuesday (September 24th) at the Cumberland Fair, with live harness racing action beginning at 1:00 p.m. (new release time) for the remainder of the week through Saturday (September 28th). The Sunday card (September 29th) has a special release time of 10:55am for the final race date.

After the fair, the route's 19-day winter festival begins on November 2nd, taking place over two days from Saturday to Sunday throughout the month of November. The month of December begins on Fridays with three-day racing weekends until December 22nd. Our popular Au Revoir retirement ceremonies are scheduled for December 21st.
