Justin Herbert (ankle) is expected to start at quarterback in Week 4
According to Ian Rapoport, Justin Herbert (ankle) is expected to start at quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4, barring any setbacks before the game

Fantasy Impact

Herbert had a questionable designation going into the weekend, but was able to convince head coach Jim Harbaugh that the signal-caller was ready to go on Sunday. The dynamic quarterback will likely be tested by a strong Kansas City defense while also potentially missing both starting offensive tackles for division competition.

Fantasy Impact

Herbert re-aggravated his upper ankle sprain in Week 3 and it is questionable whether he will be able to play in Week 4. He was only able to get in limited practice sessions this week and appears to be leaning toward playing for the Chargers. If he's out, fantasy managers shouldn't bother using anyone in Los Angeles' offense against the Chiefs.

Fantasy Impact

Herbert was able to train on a limited basis on Wednesday despite suffering an ankle injury on Sunday. He seems optimistic about his chances of playing this weekend, but it remains to be seen whether he will actually play or not. His presence in Week 4 would provide a huge boost to all of Los Angeles' players' abilities in a tough matchup against the Chiefs.

Justin Herbert suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday's Steelers game. X-rays were negative, but he will be monitored this week.

Fantasy Impact

This isn't bad news for fantasy managers, but it's not great news either. On the bright side, it doesn't sound like he'll be out for any length of time, if at all, but the downside could be that he could be hampered by this injury if it continues. Fantasy managers need to keep an eye on the situation as it develops.

What the experts say

Justin Herbert was surprisingly active for Los Angeles last week after suffering a right upper ankle sprain in Week 2. Apparently, Herbert was dealing with tremendous pain on the field and aggravated his injury before ultimately leaving the game early. After the team's 20-10 loss to Pittsburgh, Herbert was seen wearing a walking boot. He told reporters that his ankle was “a little more sore” than before.

The team has an early bye in Week 5, so it makes sense for Jim Harbaugh to give Herbert a break and give him a chance to recover, especially since the team faces a stout Kansas City Chiefs defense. If Herbert sat, Taylor Heinicke would get the start of a largely run-heavy script.

Last week, Herbert's upper ankle problems worsened again. It is not certain if he will play this week, so we will need a week of practice reports to determine his status in Week 4. I don't believe in playing a limited quarterback in a run-first offense, even if he fits it. Kansas City ranks 15th in yards per attempt, 16th in CPOE and has given up the 11th most fantasy points in the passing game.
