Monday is likely to be the last “hot” day of the season before cooler temperatures arrive on the first day of October.

Forecast from Monday

Monday will bring another warm, summery day across much of Minnesota. The central and southern regions can expect temperatures in the 80s, while northern and western areas will see cooler highs in the 70s.

The day starts with lots of sunshine, but some clouds appear in the late afternoon. Winds will become stronger, shifting from south to northwest at speeds in excess of 10-20 miles per hour. These warm, dry and windy conditions have led to a wildfire warning in parts of central and western Minnesota. The dry spell is expected to continue for at least the next week.

A cold front will move through later in the day, with winds increasing and temperatures dropping into the low 40s across the state overnight, with isolated temperatures above 50 across the metro area.

Cooler start to October

Fall weather greets the first day of October on Tuesday before warmer temperatures return on Wednesday.

There will be more autumnal conditions on Tuesday, the first day of October. From the mid 50s to the 20s, dew points will drop significantly, making temperatures feel cooler. Expect highs in the 60s, with the Twin Cities reaching around 65 degrees, close to the seasonal average.

By Wednesday, southerly winds will return, bringing warmer air with temperatures near 80 degrees back to the region. Highs will be in the lower 70s on Thursday and Friday, followed by fluctuating temperatures over the weekend.
