Oasis announces concert dates for North America

Oasis announced a North American leg of their reunion tour on Monday after their dates in the UK and Ireland sold out.

The Britpop rockers announced they will be playing Toronto, Mexico City, Chicago, Los Angeles and East Rutherford, New Jersey, which has a stadium outside of New York, starting late next summer.

“America. Oasis is coming. “You have one last chance to prove that you have loved us all along,” the band wrote in a statement.

Oasis, whose hits include “Wonderwall,” “Don't Look Back In Anger” and “Champagne Supernova,” last played together in 2009.

The news that brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher would put aside their infamous 15-year feud to reunite for a series of concerts caused a stir among fans.

The chaotic battle for coveted tickets for the original 17 concerts led to sudden large price increases – known as dynamic pricing -, hours of online waiting times and, for some, dashed hopes due to technical glitches.

Many fans were upset by this, and Britain's competition watchdog said it was investigating Ticketmaster over its handling of the sales.

Following the hustle and bustle, the band planned two more UK gigs, with the brothers denying they had anything to do with the dynamic pricing.

America is no stranger to ticketing chaos: Ticketmaster's pricing practices for concerts and other events, with high fees and a lack of alternatives, have long been a political issue in the United States, and little has been done in the past to address the market for to open up more competition.

The advance sales of Taylor Swift's “Eras Tour” in 2022 memorably led to lawmakers in Washington holding hearings in which they questioned Ticketmaster parent company Live Nation – a giant concert-promoting company – about its practices.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a massive antitrust lawsuit seeking to break up the alleged monopoly between Live Nation Entertainment and its subsidiary Ticketmaster.
