St. Louis Cardinals beat reporter Derrick Goold previously wrote that president of baseball operations John Mozeliak and manager Oliver Marmol will return in their roles for 2025.

Adjustments are planned within the front office and organization, including investments in player development and technology, expanding staff and greater influence for general manager Chaim Bloom. As Mozeliak said in a telephone interview with the Post-Dispatch on Sunday, “Changes are coming.”

“We’re shifting the focus back to scouting and player development,” Mozeliak said. “I would say we've run a lean operation over the last decade, and part of that has been to maximize success at the major league level. But over time you notice that the machine can wear out. It just doesn't produce at the same level as it used to. That doesn't mean our minor leagues are in disarray. But the emphasis on infrastructure is something we are looking at very seriously.

“There will obviously be a change in philosophy,” he added. “Instead of looking for short-term answers, we will try to take more of a long-term perspective.”
