The New York Mets are in the MLB playoffs. They punched their ticket with a wild 8-7 win over the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader and will play when the wild-card round begins Tuesday.

The two games were postponed last week because of Hurricane Helene, which caused some chaos in the MLB playoffs ahead of the start of the Wild Card Series on Tuesday.

With the Mets winning Game 1 and securing their spot in the postseason, the Braves must win Game 2 to also get in. If they split the doubleheader, both are in and the Diamondbacks are out. To break it down a little further…

  • Atlanta is there with a win. The Braves can only be the No. 5 seed.

  • new York comes in with a win. If the Mets win on a Monday, they are a No. 6 seed. If they win both, they are a No. 5 seed.

  • Arizona comes in if either Atlanta or New York sweep the doubleheader. The D-Backs can only be the No. 6 seed.

    With Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal winning the AL Triple Crown, it also marks the first time since 2011 that pitchers from both leagues have won the Triple Crown in the same season.

    It was an unlikely back-and-forth game, but the Mets managed to emerge victorious after trailing 3-0 early in the 8th inning.

    This game featured two separate comebacks and two separate key home runs. Brandon Nimmo hit a two-run homer in the 8th and Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer in the 9th to retake the lead for the Mets.

    Despite his problems in the 8th game, Diaz is out in the 9th game. And after one pitch, he's having a rash when Matt Olson shows up.

    The Mets are just one run away from clinching the game in the eighth inning. Starling Marte singled, and then Francisco Lindor followed with a single that scored Francisco Alvarez. Braves still lead 3-2, but there are no outs in the eighth inning.
