John Mozeliak has one more season left as head coach of the St. Louis Cardinals.

The organization announced a series of front office changes on Monday, a day after the official end of the 2024 season. Among them was Mozeliak stepping down as the team's president of baseball operations after the 2025 campaign.

Current agent and former Boston Red Sox top executive Chaim Bloom will then replace Mozeliak. Bloom was hired prior to the 2024 season and will now be tasked with overseeing the team's player development system before taking on the leadership role in St. Louis.

“Effective immediately, Chaim Bloom will oversee a reset of our player development system,” said Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt Jr. “As part of his assessment last season, Chaim developed a plan to improve our player development infrastructure and philosophy.

“We will continue to make significant new investments in workforce programs and infrastructure starting immediately and in the coming years…We are excited about the future and committed to executing on this multi-year plan.”

Bloom signed a five-year contract that will keep him as the team's president of baseball operations through the 2030 season.

Mozeliak took over the leadership of the Cardinals for the first time in 2008. Under his leadership, the team won the 2011 World Series, captured six division titles and two National League pennants. They also only had a single losing season during this period.

However, the Cardinals have struggled in recent years. They went just 83-79 that season and missed the playoffs for the second straight year. They also haven't won a playoff series since 2019.

“I could have gotten fired today, right?” Mozeliak told Bally Sports Midwest. “And then eventually they would have come and someone would have had to reassess where we were and we would just be wasting time. … If we hand Chaim the keys like this, he can hit the ground running.”

The Cardinals also announced that general manager Michael Girsch has been named the team's new vice president of special projects. Girsch, who was signed in 2006, will not be replaced next season. Coach Oli Marmol will also return to the club next summer. Marmol just completed his third season with the Cardinals, marking his first managerial role in Major League Baseball. He holds a career record of 247-239.
