The Voice: An artist made history by joining Gwen Stefani's team, and now I'm wondering if I even understand the rules of this show

I was Watch out The voice From the beginning, and while there have been adjustments in the competition from season to season in the size of teams, the addition of blocks and steals, etc., I feel like I have a pretty good handle on how it works. At least that was the case until the 26th season came out TV program 2024. Premiere last week introduced a new rule That seemed to call into question the entire premise of the singing competition, and a history-making performance on the second night of the blind auditions has me questioning everything. Did I accidentally wander into Snoop's lair?

A 33-year-old artist named Felsmere took the stage on the September 30 episode and sang “Some Kind of Wonderful,” and that's probably exactly what she felt when Gwen Stefani and Michael Bublé turned their chairs. She ended up joining the No Doubt singer, securing her spot The voice History books. As Felsmere explained:

I was on the very first season of The Voice. This is the first time ever that an artist who formed a team as a solo artist is coming back. In season 1, I was young and just shy. I'm coming with a new sound and hope the coaches like it.

Wait, can you do that? It doesn't surprise me that this is the first time this has happened in 26 seasons. Actually, I thought the reason no one had done this before was because it wasn't allowed! Sure, we usually see one or two artists each season come back for a second chance after previously failing to turn a chair in blind auditions. I didn't even think that anyone would return after forming a team.

If you've also been on the show for 13 years and don't know the name Felsmere, that's because the 20-year-old singer performed under her real name, Kelsey Rey, in 2011. She auditioned with the inspirational song “American Boy.” The voice trainer It's the turn of Adam Levine, CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera. (Gwen Stefani's lucky guy Felsmere didn't take offense to Blake Shelton's snub!)

Kelsey Rey eventually joined Team CeeLo, but was eliminated from the battles after singing “Unwritten” with duo The Thompson Sisters. Can we assume she's not a fan of the film? Everyone but you give this song new life?

A quick internet search gave me no solid evidence as to why I thought participants couldn't return after being part of a team – as if I could prove it The voice that I know their competition better than they do. I guess it was a matter of pride, especially after the addition of Coach Replay for Season 26 last week left me so confused.

I should add that my confusion is in no way intended to disrespect Felsmere. The artist called her first fight The voice the “best experience of my life” and I am thrilled that she is lucky enough to have this opportunity again 13 years later after so much growth.
