Fact-checkers at the Sept. 10 presidential debate were unclear about the facts about abortion in the United States and Minnesota. Debate moderator Linsey Davis attempted to rebut former President Donald Trump's statement that some states allow the killing of babies after birth. It's true that babies who survive late-term abortions are usually not killed outright (although a doctor is in prison for that), but are left to die. This leads to the same result: a newborn left to die in an abortion center without medical care.

In 2023, Gov. Tim Walz and Democrats changed Minnesota law to require babies who survive abortions to be offered only comfort care rather than medical care, The Dispatch reported in August. This means that you will care for the baby until it dies and will not require medical care. Now that Minnesota allows selective abortion up to birth, this could become more common.

That's not happening, you say? Statistics from the Minnesota Department of Health show there have been eight births with surviving abortions in Minnesota since Walz took office. There will be more, but we won't know about it because Walz and the Democrats also eliminated a reporting requirement.

This all refers to selective abortions, where a mother chooses to have an abortion for various reasons. Abortion for medical reasons has always been legal, even before Roe v. Calf, including ectopic pregnancies.

Check the facts yourself. By the way, this requirement to provide “comfort care” applies to all babies born in Minnesota, not just those who survive an abortion. Makes you think.
