STORRS, Conn. – UConn Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Beth Alford-Sullivan has announced the promotion of Coach Selwyn Maxwell, Jr. to Associate Head Track & Field Coach (effective an amendment to his employee agreement). 09/04/24).

Coach Maxwell has been a key member of the UConn coaching staff for the past three years as an assistant track and field coach, working with the Huskies' sprinters, hurdlers and eventers. Since Coach Maxwell joined the coaching staff in 2021, both men's and women's track and field have won three BIG EAST indoor and outdoor championships, capturing the 2022-2024 championships.

Prior to UConn, Maxwell gained valuable coaching experience at the collegiate level, coaching at Amherst College for a year before spending three and a half years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Coach Maxwell's career has come full circle so far as he served as captain of the men's track and field program for two years. Maxwell helped lead the Huskies to the 2013 indoor and outdoor Big East championships and the 2014 and 2015 American Athletics Conference indoor and outdoor championships. During his athletic career, Maxwell earned All-Big East and All-AAC honors, was the 2013 New England Indoor Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, and qualified for the NCAA East Regional four times in the 110-meter hurdles. Hurdling.
