On the 100th birthday of former President Jimmy Carter, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump set his sights on the 39th president's term in office.

At a campaign stop in Waunakee, Wisconsin, Trump said President Joe Biden had replaced Carter as the worst president in American history.

“Jimmy Carter is the luckiest man because Jimmy Carter is considered a brilliant president by comparison,” Trump said.

Trump made the same joke at a May rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, where he mistakenly called the former Georgia governor “Jimmy Connors,” a retired tennis star from the 1970s. Trump joked that “he’s happy too.”

Brian Kemp declares October 1st “Jimmy Carter Day”

Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, with whom Trump has clashed over the state's conduct in the 2020 election, declared October 1 “Jimmy Carter Day.”

In a statement, Kemp, who supported Trump in the election this November, said Carter “remained a person of strong conviction and a staunch supporter of community service.”

“Of his many accomplishments, he is perhaps best known as a loving husband, caring humanitarian and valued Sunday school teacher,” Kemp added in his statement.

Carter spent his birthday at his home in Plains, Georgia, where he has been receiving hospice care since February 2023.

The Carter family has expressed similarly dark views of Trump.

On Tuesday, the Carter Center released videos of successors praising the 39th president, including former Presidents Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton — but nothing from Trump.
