MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – What a beginning! For our Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds with afternoon temperatures reaching into the 80s and a light breeze. We can't rule out a few scattered showers or showers, but most of us will stay dry.

Expect more of the same for most of the week. Here too, temperatures will warm to over 80°C from Tuesday to at least Thursday, with no significant chance of rain and a pleasant feeling in the air.

However, our smooth operation will not last forever. We'll be keeping a close eye on the Gulf of Mexico throughout the week…

On the trail of the tropics: The Atlantic Ocean is a busy place these days; Hurricane Isaac and Tropical Storm Joyce are swirling over the North and Central Atlantic, respectively. None of these will threaten the United States. Two groups of storms could also develop off the West African coast in the coming week.

In the western Caribbean, a group of thunderstorms is showing slow development potential this week as they move northwest toward the southern Gulf of Mexico. It is far too early to even speculate on the future strength or development of this system, but given its close proximity, it is worth keeping an eye on. We'll have a much clearer picture as the week progresses, so check back for updates.
