LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An illegal black market marijuana sale in East Las Vegas ended in a deadly shooting next to a park full of children.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred next to Lewis Family Park around 4:22 p.m

Lt. Jason Johansson said Southeast Area Command responded to reports of a shooting at Tree Line and Grass Meadows. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man who had been shot in the driver's seat of a car.

An illegal black market marijuana sale in East Las Vegas ended in a fatal shooting next to a park full of children.

Doctors responded and transported him to Sunrise Hospital, where he later died.

While police were securing the scene, they were approached by a citizen who said two men wearing dark clothing and ski masks walked past during the shooting and ran into an apartment.

The officers formed a response team and contacted the residents of the apartment. Two men got out and police took them both into custody.

Homicide detectives believe the shooting occurred during an argument or a robbery at an illegal black market marijuana sale.

Johansson says he is “pretty sure” that the two suspects in custody are directly related to the shooting.

Police execute a search warrant for the vehicle involved.

Johansson says police “dodged a bullet” in that shooting because there were many children in the park.

He also believes there may be many witnesses who saw the shooting.
