“What if there really was a body?”

No Diggity

After unearthing a strange rug buried in her backyard, an Ohio woman became entangled in unexplained events — and ultimately decided to call in the cavalry.

As People Katie Santry of Columbus reportedly discovered the buried and rolled up carpet while she and her boyfriend were digging to build a fence. Videos of their experiences immediately went viral on TikTok and readers immediately jumped to wild conclusions.

Shortly after excavation began, the 34-year-old mother entered her home office to find her laptop screen broken and her desk supplies scattered. Santry blamed everyone in the house, from her boyfriend Brandon and his two children to her own son, for breaking the computer. But everyone said that they were nowhere near the room where it happened and that the doors were closed.

Suddenly a macabre thought occurred to her and was communicated to her People: “Is there a body in this carpet? Or is it the ghost from the carpet’s past?”

Santry took to TikTok to discuss her mystery, quizzing her followers in a now-viral first post in which she asked, “What in the world happened?” Is there a ghost breaking my things?”

As she told PeopleSantry decided to literally dig further after the massive response to the first video, which received five million views and thousands of comments. However, the woman, her boyfriend and her children soon discovered that due to Columbus' recent drought, the ground was too dry to dig with their regular shovels.

At a dead end, Santry said her children soon lost interest, but she worried about the potential ghost whose soul may have been trapped in the carpet.

“What if there really was a body?” she asked herself, as told People. “How could you not help this person find peace?”

Official backup

Two days after that initial post went viral, the woman decided to call the police, who arrived within 15 minutes and informed her that a full search of the yard was required to determine whether or not human remains were buried there.

While she waited for that process to begin, Santry decided to do some digital research of her own, taking her rapidly growing number of followers along for the ride.

She discovered that the house in front of her belonged to only one family and that the two elderly former tenants were still alive and living in a nearby nursing home. After they made contact, the couple's adult daughter even promised to talk to them and ask if they knew anything.

In her interview with PeopleSantry said that while she doesn't “believe there's a body down there,” she still desperately needs to find out why the rug was buried in the first place.

“My biggest concern is my computer because at the end of the day it broke for no apparent reason,” she continued. “That leaves me with the most question marks.”
