Barbra Streisand remembers her last duet with Kris Kristofferson

Barbra Streisand remembers her longtime friend and colleague Kris Kristofferson, who passed away on Saturday (September 28).

Streisand – the EGOT award-winning actress and singer who starred alongside Kristofferson in the 1976 film A star is born – shared her earliest memory of him in a social media post on Sunday evening (September 29).

“When I first saw Kris perform at the Troubadour club in LA, I knew he was special,” she writes next to a carousel of two photos of them together over the years.

“Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing that eventually came to fruition A star is born.”

In addition to serving as the romantic leads in the film, they also recorded music for the soundtrack, including the love theme “Evergreen”.

Kristofferson and Streisand stayed in touch over the years, and decades later, their last time in the spotlight together was when he joined her as a special musical guest during a show.

“For my last concert of 2019 in London's Hyde Park, I asked Kris to come on stage with me to sing our other one A star is born “He was as charming as ever and the audience showered him with applause.” It was a joy to see him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved.

Kristofferson and his wife Lisa – whom he met six years after the film was released – had five children together, in addition to Kristofferson's three children from previous marriages. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren.

As she remembered her late co-star and friend, Streisand offered her condolences to his family.

“My thoughts are with Kris' wife Lisa, who I know has supported him in every way possible,” she writes at the end of her post.

Kristofferson's family announced his death in a statement. A cause of death was not immediately known, but the family thanked him for the time they spent with him and the support they felt from his many fans.
