Bills, Josh Allen can make another primetime statement against the Ravens

This is a game you'll want to watch every few weeks as it features two of the NFL's three most dynamic quarterbacks.

Anyone who isn't excited to see quarterbacks Lamar Jackson of the Ravens and Josh Allen of the Bills on the field in the same game simply has no interest in football.

Jackson is the reigning MVP, having won it twice, and his 254 yards rushing are the most of any quarterback through the first three games this season.

Allen is currently the oddsmakers' favorite to win MVP this season – ahead of Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes – and has thrown for 634 yards and seven touchdowns and scored two more touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception after throwing a career-best 18 last season.

That's what you'll get when the 3-0 Bills play the 1-2 Ravens on Sunday night in Baltimore.

“I'm just grateful to be a part of it and to be around him,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters this week, referring to the rivalry between the two star quarterbacks. “These are the things you'll look back on and say, 'Wow, wasn't that cool to be a part of?' ”

There is mutual admiration between the two quarterbacks.

“(I) love watching him play because with him every play is never dead,” Allen said of Jackson. “He has an incredible ability to keep plays alive and make guys miss and then get the ball downfield, so he’s a special player.”

Jackson told reporters that he greatly appreciates the spotlight he and Allen share.

“It’s always going to be that way as long as we’re in the league,” Jackson said. “I really don’t know how people will judge it or what people will say. I just go out there and try to get a “W.” ”

Both Allen and Jackson were drafted in 2018 and made their NFL debuts later that year as backup players in Baltimore's season-opening 47-3 win over Buffalo.

Allen has led Buffalo to four consecutive AFC East titles and five consecutive playoff appearances in his six-plus NFL seasons. He completed TD passes to six different players – which is impressive considering he lost his top two targets, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, in the offseason.

Buffalo receiver Khalil Shakir called Allen “a freak of nature,” adding, “He puts the ball where only we can throw it.”

The Bills, coming off a 47-10 loss to the Jaguars on Monday night, scored an NFL-high 112 points – their most in three weeks since 113 during that period in 2011.

After losing their first two, the Ravens beat the Cowboys in a desperation game last week. In that game, Bills edge rusher Von Miller caught the attention of Jackson and power runner Derrick Henry.

“I remember watching the game on TV and thinking, 'This is going to be a problem,'” Miller said of the Dallas game. “And it has.”

Henry rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns in Dallas, his best game since joining Baltimore.

One thing that was a problem for the Ravens was their defense protecting the lead. The Ravens blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in a loss to the Raiders in Week 2 and nearly gave away a big lead to the Cowboys before surviving last week.

“We just need to get back together,” Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton said during the week. “We started so strong and it's hard to sustain that for 60 minutes, but I think we have the guys to do it. Reset, refocus in the fourth quarter.”

The Bills have won eight straight regular-season games dating back to last year, the longest active streak in the league. They are appearing in prime time for the third time in a row.

The Ravens are 20-3 in primetime home games under Harbaugh since his arrival in 2008.
